Minimum Requirements

Minimum requirements:

  • Completed LLB with 2 years of Clerkship served in an IP firm;
  • Admitted Attorney;
  • At least 2 to 3 years PQE in an IP firm.
  • Completion of at least Group 1 SAIIPL Trade mark exams;
  • Knowledge and understanding of Trade Marks is essential;
  • Experience in and ability to do legal research and draft opinions;
  • Fully computer literate on MS Office (Knowledge Patricia and Elite 3E will be advantageous: Patricia (patent and trademark management software) and Thomson Reuters Elite 3E (financial and practice management software);
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and good command of English;
  • Must be able to multi-task;
  • Able to work independently;

Duties and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the TM Enforcement Associate will include, but are not limited to:

  • Drafting legal documents i.e., opinions, contracts, agreements, letters of demand and pleadings;
  • Drafting of articles and creation of presentations, all relating to contribution towards firm marketing efforts;
  • Monthly invoicing of fees and disbursements;
  • Compilation of quotes;
  • File and document management (uploading documents, correspondence, managing/ monitoring deadlines, diarising files and ensuring timeous attendance, court online processes);
  • Liaising with clients, counter parties and agents;
  • Attending consultations with counsel and clients;
  • Assistance in the day to day running of the practice;
  • Attendance at client and marketing events, including presenting on topical issues from time to time
